HOW TO GET A LICENSE

1 you must obtain a permit 

                            a. You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 yrs old you

                                         need a signature from a parent or legal guardian.  

                           b. You must go to the DMV with proof of identification, proof of Date of Birth.

                               If you do not have enough ID, your parent or guardian must go with you

                                    to the DMV and show their proof of ID.

                           c. You must also provide your social security number on the application,

                                or a letter from the proper authorities stating you are not eligible

                                                  for a social security number.

                              North Shore Auto School will be glad to send you a free permit package with

                                drivers manual and applications which will tell you what to bring to the DMV.

         2. You must attend a five hour pre-licensing class. 

               a. North Shore Auto School provides this class at our location in Bethpage, Nassau County.

                     We do the class on Thursday evenings at 6 pm, or Saturday's at 10 AM.

If you complete a high school or college Driver Education coarse you will be issued a pre-licensing coarse there.       

   3. You Make A Road Test Appointment

You can not make a road test appointment if you are under 18 yrs old until you have your permit for 6 months.

               a. To make a road test appointment you go on the internet to www.nysdmv.com.

                       On the home page it will say schedule a road test. 

                    North Shore Auto School can make a road test appointment for you.

                     We have a web site that has more information than the one you might see.

                         Just call us with your ID# from your permit. There is no charge.

                    4.  When you pass your road test, you will receive a temporary license or

                      junior license immediately. Your picture license or junior license

                                  will be mailed to you in about 4 weeks.
